Rudi and Renate Nitsche

The background
Rudi and Renate Nitsche grew up in a farming community in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1979. In 2001, they started Nature's Choice, producing herbs and later, due to demand from customers, vegetables. Renate also started selling European pastries at the market under the Old World Baking label and now runs the Thunder Bay Country Market Café.

Organically grown Vegetables
Rudi and Renate's organically grown vegetables are harvested by hand at peak times and preserved to ensure that customers are able to enjoy local produce in the form of soups, entrees and baking, year-around. Their vegetables are grown in a natural, sustainable environment that supports the whole eco system.

European Pastries and German Specialties
These fingerlicking treats are made with butter and cream, organic flour, sugar and homemade fruit fillings. Baking made with organic spelt and gluten-free products are another specialty. No transfats or artificial ingredients are used in any product.

Thunder Bay Country Market Café
At the Thunder Bay Country Market Café, Renate sells her pastries as well as German Schnitzel, meaty cabbage rolls, soups, quiches and other weekly take-out meals, made with homegrown vegetables and local meats. Come and see her at the Market Café every Saturday, where farmer's breakfasts and luncheons are served.
