Thunder Oak Cheese was established in 1995 by Jacob and Margaret Schep. It was the first on-farm milk processing plant in Ontario using only milk from their own herd.

In 2007, their two sons, Walter and Martin, took over the operation, with Walter running the cheese processing portion of the operation and Martin operating the Dairy Farm.
